MINING STRIKE

GRIEVANCES OF FIJIAN WORKERS. RAW RECRUITS GET HIGHER WAGES. (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) SUVA, This Day. Labour trouble at the Tav.ua Mines resulted in a walk-out of all the underground and surface native workers on the Emperor property on Monday. Pickets succeeded in withdrawing the mill hands on Tuesday. It is alleged that the trouble is due to the engagement of inexperienced workers from Rotuma at higher wages than those paid to Fijians of considerable service, and reached a climax following on the accidental death of a Fijian at the Emperor Mine.
