THE WINDOW TAX
OLD ENGLISH IMPOST. How many housewives, as they open the windows of their homes in the morning, know that, years ago in England, when glass was a luxury of the wealthy, glass windows had a tax placed on them, and householders paid a tax according to the number of windows in their homes? This tax was not abolished until the year 1851.
