AUSTRALIAN RACING

♦ FLEMINGTON CARNIVAL OAKS TO FRENCH GEM. AN EXCITING FINISH. By Telegraph—Press Association. —Copyright. MELBOURNE, November 3. The weather was fine and warm and there was a good attendance at Flemington for the third day of the Victoria Racing Club’s meeting. Dominor had little difficulty in repeating his Cup day win in the November Hurdle Race. He has now had six hurdle wins in succession.

Aspire, who was prominent all the way on the outside rail, had a comfortable win in the Byron Moore Stakes. He cost 1200 guineas as a yearling and has registered two wins and a second in three starts. He looks a Derby proposition. Ajax was untroubled in the Linlithgow Stakes and registered his thirteenth successive win. His full record is 20 wins and three seconds in 24 starts for £23,765 in stakes. He also won the Linlithgow Stakes last year. Ajax ran the last halfmile in 47-3. Adios finished strongly to beat the pacemaker, Caragona, in the Carnival Handicap. Netherlea, who is improving, ran fifth. The winner is trained by the former New Zealander, George Price.

There was an exciting finish in the Oaks. French Gem was last at the home turn, but displayed unexpected stamina and won in the last few strides from Talkalot, who headed the pacemaker, Gay Doll, 50 yards from the post. Acheron ran a poor race, and Lady Montague was disappointing. The winner is trained by R. Sinclair and owned by Mr G. W. Badman, owner of Aurie’s Star. An exciting finish was witnessed in the Veteran Stakes, in which El Senorita held off fast-finishing runs by L’Aiglon and Manolive. Queen of Song had a poor run and finished sixth.
