PERSONAL ITEMS. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr Robert Spora and his wife returned to Carterton yesterday after spending a brief holiday in Auckland. They report that it rained incessantly during the whole journey to Wellington. Mr and Mrs Arthur Phillpotts left Carterton this morning for Napier en route to Gisborne on a visit to their son, Raymond. They will spend several weeks in Gisborne. They intended to proceed by plane from Napier to Gisborne. Mrs C. Page, of Belvedere Street, Carterton, who has been an inmate of the Greytown Hospital, has returned to her home after successfully undergoing an operation. Fairbrother, also of Dalefield, will be showing Holsteins at Palmerston North. Copious Rainfall. After a spell of fine weather a copious fall of rain commenced on Tuesday evening and continued throughout yesterday. Although slightly cold the rain is very welcome to dairy farmers and others. It is to be hoped it has reached the parts beyond the Maungarakis, as your representative has been informed that the dry weather along the coast was becoming serious: Creeks that generally are running with water till partly into January had already ceased to flow. Dairy Factories. The present rain will be the means of increasing the supply of milk at the various cheese factories. During the present spring the season has not been altogether a very good one to the farmer as it is understood the supply of milk to the various Wairarapa factories has not been up to the usual supply at this time of the year. The much needed rain will make a difference. Bowling. The Carterton Bowling Club has received a communication from the Nelson Bowling Club notifying that at the Golden Jubilee of the Club, 1888-1938, two successive tourneys of full rinks will be held, the first one on December 26, 27 and 28 and the second on December 30, 31 and January 2.
