FEATHERSTON COUNTY. VACANCY ON COUNCIL. Consequent upon the death of Mr Quentin Donald who was councillor for the Featherston Riding of the Featherston County Council, an election will be held on Monday, November 21 for the purpose of filling the vacancy. Nominations close on Friday, November 11 at the County office, Kitchener Street, Martinborough, with the County Clerk, who will act as Returning Officer for the election. LABOUR VICTORY BALL. SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION. The “Victory Ball” held by the Labour Party in the Anzac Hall last night proved a great, success. Among the visitors were Mr H. Combs, M.P., Mr E. Roberts, M.P., Mrs R. Semple (wearing amethyst georgette) and Mrs Robertson (Mayoress of Upper Hutt) who was dressed in blue lace with white coat. The duties of Ms.C. were carried out in an efficient manner by Messrs R. F. Watson and H. Prattley. The supper tables were artistically decorated by Miss Zena Tutbury. The music was supplied by Udy’s Orchestra. The 'supper arrangements were in the hands of Mesdames Hatton and Savage, assisted by a committee of ladies. An exhibition of-tap dancing was given by Miss H. Lock’s pupils —Joy Shaw, Diane Shaw,. Beverly Stewart, Norma Stains and Waireka Tauheri, of Mastertpn. The item was greatly..,appreciated and warmly encored. Extras were played by Mrs Shaw, Mrs Whiteman and Miss Fraser. Among those present were: Mrs R. Bradley, candy striped chiffon; Mrs Frank Whiteman, silver threaded green matalasse; Mrs R. Skipage, pink brocaded satin; Mrs B. McHardy, Mrs P. McHardy, Miss H. Lock, Mrs J. Stewart, Miss L. Abbott (Clareville), blue; Mrs A. Stretton (Clareville), blue; Miss T. Fraser, floral taffeta; Miss P. Cherry, pink taffeta; Miss V. Benge, figured satin; Mrs McGuinness, black and white georgette; Mrs Ward, black georgette; Mrs Moriarty, black velvet; Mrs Duncan Findlay, pink embossed velvet; Miss A. Bambry, white ninon; Miss E. Euchre Party. A euchre party was held by the members of the Featherston Croquet Club at the home of the president, Mrs Saunders, on Monday night. Mrs Sim won the first prize and Mrs Jeffrey the second. Mrs Leslie and Mrs Lowell played off for the aggregate, Mrs Lowell proving the winner. • wHaunui Croquet Club. Miss Eva Card, president of the Haunt) i Croquet Club, entertained the playing members -on Monday afternoon. Combined doubles and half hour games were played. The winners were Miss M. Nix, Mrs W. Card, and Mrs Robinson (beginner). The holders of the inter-club brooches, Mesdames Hankers and White, were defeated by Mrs Morris and Mrs Dagg (Lansdowne) 2G-12. Cricket. The Matarawa eleven played the Pirate team at cricket recently, the latter winning by 62 runs to 35. Horticultural Show. Great interest is being shown in the Horticultural Society's Children's section of the Show on November 24. Mrs Leslie has donated a points prize for the children’s cooking section, Miss Eva Card a points prize for the children’s decorative section and Mrs Stan Benton, a points prize for the children’s sewing section. Mrs C. Rea has donated a special prize for the best dressed doll and Mrs Ritchie a special prize for the best decorated sponge, both in the children’s section.
