FALSE CHEQUES PASSED
LABOURER SENT TO GAOL 1 FOR TWO MONTHS (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The finding of a cheque book in a whare at Titahi Bay, where he was working, led to the appearance in the Police Court of David Allan Ferry, a labourer, aged 29, on a charge of passing two cheques for £3 each, signed by himself, and cashed by a restaurant proprietor. The first cheque was presented by a taxi-driver to whom it was given for a drive about the city. Accused had- been drinking, and afterwards went to the police and made a statement. In imposing a sentence of two months’ imprisonment the magistrate said the cashing of false cheques was too serious an offence for leniency to be shown.
