STATE THEATRE

“THE LILAC DOMINO.” Tonight’s big attractions at the State Theatre will be that outstanding comedy, “The Lilac Domino,” and the' Jones Family in Paris. “The Lilac Domino,” one of the most popular musical .comedies ever staged in London, has been filmed with a cast that should ensure the widest popularity on the screen. Michael Bartlett, the American operatic star who sang his way to film prominence opposite Grace Moore in “Love Me Forever,” and then proved his ability as a straight actor with Claudette Colbert in “She Married Her Boss,” plays the leading male role. June Knight, the musical comedy star, plays opposite Bartlett as Shari. “The Lilac Domino” will be her first British picture. Szoke Szakall, famed Hungarian comedian whose reputation was born when he made the late Emperor Franz Josef laugh, brings his unique humour and unique name to Uhe English screen in the role of the gypsy band leader, Sandor. Wheii more laughs can be packed into a movie than are crammed into “A Trip To Paris,” the famous Jones Family will do it. Ma Jones (Spring Byington) and Granny (Florence Roberts) bundle Lucy (June Carlson), young Jack (Ken Howell), Roger (George Ernest) and Bobby (Billy Mahan). into travelling gear and make arrangements with the newlyweds (Shirley Deane and Russell Gleason) to take care of the Jones’ manse while they’re away. The picture is the last word in screams.
