AGAINST AIR RAIDS
HOUSES OF PARLIAMENT MADE GAS-PROOF COMMUNICATION TESTS IN BRITAIN. SECRET, COLOUR CODE USED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.15 p.m.) LONDON, October 31. Peers and members of Parliament, on returning to the Houses of Parliament tomorrow, will find all the ground-floor rooms made gas-proof, the doors being lined with rubber. The General Post Office conducted a test communicating air-raid warning throughout the country, by means of a secret colour code. A total of 3.475 exchanges received the message and passed it on to the local police stations, fire brigades, air wardens, etc. Four colours were used, the first meaning: “Enemy planes approaching the coast,” the second, “Attack in progress,” the third, “Raiders passed,” and the fourth, “All clear.”
