ARAB RAIDERS
SAID TO BE ASSISTED BY GERMANS TECHNICIANS ATTACHED TO BANDS. METHODS OF ROAD & RAIL SABOTAGE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. LONDON, October 31. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Jerusalem correspondent says Arabs reveal that German technicians attached to rebel bands are instructing them in the use of land mines and methods of road and rail sabotage. It is believed that Arabs who assisted Lawrence of Arabia in similar activities have joined the rebels. German assistance began after the arrival from Berlin of the notorious propagandist, Emir Chekib. % The “News Chronicle’s” correspondent in Gaza, which has been reoccupied by the British, says that 18 search parties from the Coldstream Guards and the Northumberland Fusiliers combed houses and searched 8000 men. They compelled women to show their hands to prove they were not men masquerading in women’s clothing. The troops used a new automatic firearms finder consisting of a divining rod with a frame aerial to which an electro-magnetic apparatus is attached, emitting a howl when metal is detected. Unfortunately it detects any metal, consequently floors torn up frequently disclose only tin cans, though several revolvers and ammunition and old Turkish shells, relics of Allenby’s campaign, have been discovered. ACTION IN JAFFA \ i PREPARATIONS FOR CLEAN-UP. REBELS POST DEFIANT PROCLAMATION. (Received This Day, 10 a.m.) JAFFA, October 31. Despite British troops guarding the Post Office, the Law Courts and the Police Station, rebels placarded a proclamation at the Post Office, warning British residents that the “savage murders the British army is committing against peaceful Arabs will meet with reprisals. British officials and civilians you have ignited a fire and must bear the consequences.” The authorities have imposed a dawn curfew. This is believed to be a preliminary to a British clean-up and the reasserting of authority in a rebel-in-fested city, where murder, arson, theft, intimidation and racketeering are rife.
