RABBIT CONTROL
TINUI ASSOCIATION FORMED VOLUNTARY ORGANISATION OF SETTLERS Following numerous requests from the Tinui district, a meeting of settlers was held, convened by Mr James Andrew, through the Farmers’ Union, to consider the formation of a voluntary organisation to control rabbits. At: this meeting it was decided to form the Tinui District Rabbit Association, a committee of five, including the district rabbit inspector, Mr J. F. Jaine, being appointed to .attend to details. The other members of the committee are Messrs J. Andrew (chairman), R. S. Pilmer, W. H. French and T. W. S. Langdon. It was considered that the formation of the association would provide the best means of making a combined effort to deal satisfactorily with the rabbit menace. Each member of the association will be personally responsible for the jrabbiter’s' remuneration, while he is working on his property. The area embraced by the association is the Castlepoint County and the Uriti Riding of the Masterton County, though there is a possibility that the district might be extended. It is expected that the scheme will operate this month. Mr James Hay, of Benmore, Masterton, has been appointed rabbiter. There is already work in hand for the permanent employment of one rabbiter, and if there are sufficient additional members a second rabbitter will be engaged. The settlers concerned have drawn up a voluntary agreement concerning the working of the scheme.
