PUBLIC NOTICES. N.Z. RESTAURANT MEALS Are the Cheapest in the World. rpHAT is a fact vouched for by overseas visitors and by returned travellers from our own country. We are beginning to wonder how long this enviable reputation will . be maintained. The cost of public meals in Tea Rooms and Restaurants has risen so appreciably that caterers are faced with a serious loss, unless some adjustment can be made. There are several alternative ways of dealing with the situation. 1. Maintain present prices but reduce the quantity of food supplied. (Rather incongruous in a country of bountiful production.) 2. Maintain present prices but provide lower grade food and less efficient service. (Ruled out.) 3. Raise prices of all meals to a rate that will ensure a reasonable return or profit. (We just wonder ■ how the public would react to this proposal.) 4. Impose a small surcharge on all meals supplied, merely' to cover the ADDITIONAL cost of higher Award wages and overhead expenses. . To come to the point, No. 4 is the plan the majority of the restaurant keepers of Masterton have decided to follow, commencing on November 1. Morning and Afternoon Teas, Luncheons and Friday-night Meals will all bear a surcharge of one penny for each customer. OPERA HOUSE. OPERA HOUSE. TONIGHT! TONIGHT! TONIGHT! TONIGHT! 7.45 o’clock.
