PIPE BANDS
ANNUAL MEETING OF CENTRE. The annual meeting of the Welling-ton-Hawke’s Bay Pipe Band Centre was held on Saturday evening in Wellington, when representatives of the following, bands were present: —PipeMajor D. Peters, Drum-Major A. Sturrock, W. L. Sattrup (Ruahine); PipeMajor N. McPhee, C. Anniss, J. McKie (Wellington Police); Pipe-Major V. J. Nicholson, W. Allen, V. Allen (Manawatu Scottish); Pipe-Major C. Stewart, Pipe-Sergeant W. Smith and M. Gray Nasmith (Wellington Caledonian); Drum-Major A. Hobson, W. Chisholm (Pipes and Drums, Wellington Regiment); Pipe-Major T. G. Bedding (Scots College); Major J. W. Bird (Wairarapa College); and C. Stewart (Hunterville). The annual report and balancesheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: —President, Drum-Major A. Sturrock; vice-presidents, Drum-Major A. Hobson and J. W. Brown; secretarytreasurer, Mr M. Gray Nasmith; executive, Pipe-Major C. Stewart, •Piper Major G. McLennan, Pipe-Major V. J: Nicholson, Pipe-Major N. McPhee, Pipe-Major T. G. Bedding, W. L. Sattrup and I. Cameron. It was unanimously resolved that meetings of the centre be held alternately at Wellington and Palmerston. North, except that the meeting of the executive immediately before a centre contest be held in the town in which the contest takes place. The next centre contest will be held at Dannevirke on January 28, 1939. It was decided that no entry fee be charged, but that a late fee of 10s be charged any band entering after' the specified closing date —a fortnight previous to the contest. Ten per cent of the profits will be allotted to the assisting band and 25 per cent to the centre, the remaining portion to be divided among the competing bands. All competing bands ape to forward the names of their pipe-majors and drum-majors, a copy of the music to be played, and the name of the tartan to be worn. The quickstep and drum-majors’ display will be held in the afternoon, and the test selection with concert items in the evening. » It was left to the Dannevirke committee to recommend the military judges, whose appointment, as well as that‘of the music judge, will be made at the next meeting of the executive.
