DAIRY PRODUCTION
A DROP PREDICTED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 31. “Definitely we are going to be down in production this year,” said Mr R. H. McKenzie, on his return from the Empire Dairies’ annual meeting in Sydney. “Even with good rains now we cannot make up what we have lost because of the dry weather. The eczema epidemic has also been a contributing factor. So has the shortage of farm labour. I think you will find that people will be going out of the dairying business. Last season our production dropped 6 per cent, and already this season the drop has been 19 per cent.” Mr McKenzie said that the Auckland province would see a drop this year in the export of lamb for the London market. Production was down considerably because of the eczema. Wool would also show a decline. Speaking of Australia, Mr McKenzie said that the production of dairy produce in Queensland and New South Wales would show an increase this year as'a result of plentiful rain. Victoria had experienced a dry spell, and unless there was rain in the next two or three weeks the drop would be severe. However, the Australian output as a whole would be in excess of last year.
