BAZAAR & DANCE
MASTERTON EAST SCHOOL GATHERING. A most successful bazaar and dance was held <jt the Masterton East School on Saturday, as the result of which about £4O was added to the funds of the East School Association. There was a large attendance of the public at the bazaar in the afternoon. Mr A. I. Gibbs, chairman of the association, introduced Mrs E. G. Coddington and called on her to officially open the bazaar. She was presented with a bouquet by a small pupil. Mrs Coddington thanked the association for the invitation to be present to open the bazaar. Others at the opening ceremony were Mrs Gibbs, Miss Rayne, Mr G. Selby (secretary) and members of the association committee. The stall-holders were: Afternoon tea, Mesdames Ball, Cole, Brogden and Bennett; cakes and sweets, Mesdames Cairns and Gibbs; produce, Mesdames Grantham and Wright; fancy work, Mesdames Torrance and Butler; bran tub, Mesdames Anderson, Benge, Mr Benge; soft drinks, Messrs D. Brogden and Cole; children’s stall, Miss Goodall and children.
Mrs Coddington and all helpers at the bazaar’ were accorded a vote of thanks on the motion of Mr Selby. The dance in the evening was most enjoyable. The music was supplied by Mr A. J. Barnes (piano) and G. Hessell (drums and effects), while Mr Coddington junr contributed extras. Mr P. Ward acted as M.C. The winners of a Monte Carlo competition were Mr and Mrs S. Smith. Mrs Oliver rendered a vocal solo which was much appreciated.
