GAMING RAID

FINES TOTALLING £3lB IMPOSED BOOKMAKING AS SIDELINE TO DRY CLEANING (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WHANGAREI, This Day. Fines totalling £3lB were inflicted by Mr G. N. Morris, S.M., this morning on eight defendants charged as the outcome of a police raid on Saturday. Arthur Clark was fined £lOO for using premises as a gaming house. A bookmaking business was run as a sideline to dry cleaning, a detective stated.

Arthur Lambess, tobacconist and Charles Schon were similarly fined. All had previous convictions. Other defendants were fined small sums.
