ARDMOYLE IN GOOD FORM

(By “The Cynic.”)

No horse at Invercargill is bearing a brighter appearance than Ardmayle. W. Anderton has taken him along quietly, and he will be one whose chances will be favoured at Gore. New Trainer. Dropped Catch has been purchased by a patron of J. McLean’s stable and ' McLean in future will train him in company with Great Bramble, Dracula and Top Rank. Promising Colts. I J. Olive, in charge of F. D. Jones’s establishment at Riccarton, has started tw£) of his two-year-olds in sprinting tasks. One is Iceland Spa,, a chestnut colt by Excitement—Calcite, bought in Sydney for Mr H. S. Williams, of Christchurch, and the other is Moorsotis, a colt by Myosotis from Moorbird, bred and owned by Messrs E. C. McCullough and Jones. Both youngsters are solidly built, and are to be. given time to develop. Plenty of Ability. Among the batch of two-year-olds in work under H. and A. Cutts is Great Swoop a full-brother to Great Flight. Great Swoop may take a little more time but he shows plenty of ability. Yaldhurst Visitors. During recent visits to Riccarton with gallopers, M. B. Edwards has given two unraced three-year-olds useful work. One is by Shambles from Ferino, by Solferino from Mademoiselle Ixe, and is owned by Mr T. W. Gudsell, of Ashburton, and will race as Swingtime. She has been nominated for the maiden event at the Banks Peninsua meeting. The other is a three-year-old filly named Tea Song, by Hunting Song from Tea Doll, by Tea Tray from imported Dancing Doll, by Black Jester, and is owned by Mrs R. E. Growcott. The three-year-old Phenomenal in Edwards’s stable has | not done any work since he was gal- , loped ..on at Ashburton last month, ; when he suffered a severe cut above the hock of a hind leg, and he has not ( yet regained free use of the limb. He < is being led about on the tracks in the j hope that the stiffness will wear off, , but some time will elapse before he will be able to race. (

Improvident Well. Improvident has made a complete recovery from the heel bug trouble that has kept him off the scene on race days for some time. He has reached the sprinting stage in his preparation and though still inclined to pull in work has quietened down considerably and lost a good deal of the nervousness that characterised his actions last season. Haughty Winner, also a member of C. C. McCarthy’s team and a sufferer from the same trouble, is well on the mend and though not sprinting yet is getting through plenty of solid exercise. He is in great heart and it s will not take much fast work to fit him for racing. Possibly he will be ready for the New Zealand Cup meeting. Iceland Spar, the Excitement —Calcite colt in J. OJive’s team, has shown an improvement in speed recently and is now galloping well. Useful Mare.

Lady Leigh, an older stablemate, has yet to win an open class sprint, but she has only had one start’since leaving hack ranks and then was third to Wine Card and Kinnoull in the Spring Handicap at Ashburton last month. Motukarara may be her next starting place and as she is well and seldom runs a bad race she will have supporters. The name of Moorsotis has been claimed for the Myosotis—Moorbird colt in J. Olive’s team. This youngster is well.
