FEATHERSTON

LEAGUE OF MOTHERS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the League of Mothers was held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs Arch. Clark presiding ever a good attendance. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames, F. W. Burt, J. G. McKenzie, Harkness, Long, Cuff, G. Burt, Wakely and Blain. Mrs N. R. Barrer (Masterton) gave a very interesting address on the International Christian Youths’ Association. The hostesses were Mesdames Barney Burt. P. Gain, A. Gain and Lowell. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. Personals. Miss Margaret Lawson, of the Teachers' Training College, Wellington, was amongst the successful candidates at the recent annual examinations of the Victoria University College. Master W. Rowles won the golf championship of St Patrick’s College, Silverstream, the final being played on the Heretaunga links. Mr Martin Lenahan, who has been an inmate of the Kelvin Hospital for the past few months, has recovered sufficiently to be able to return to his home. Mi- and Mrs P. W. Thwaites (Wellington) are weekend visitors to Featherston and are the guests of Mrs J. A. Juno. Miss O. Ross (Wellington) is the guest of Mrs H. G. Lovegrove for the weekend. Mr Quentin Donald, Senr., is reported to be seriously ill at his home at Tauherenikau. Miss Hutchens, Miss Nancy Sadler (Palmerston North), and Miss G. Brash are the guests of Mrs W. H. Sadler, Tauherenikau. Miss Kidman, Pahautea, is spending the weekend in Wellington. A quiet wedding was solemnised in Auckland recently when Mr T. Urquhart, late of Piliautea, was married to Miss Nessie Moore, of Wellington. Mrs L. McKenna is visiting Pahiatua. ’ Miss Twentymen is spending the weekend with relatives in Napier. Miss Mutter, who, has been in Waitara on a short visit, has returned home. t Canon J. H. Sykes, Vicar of Greytown, will be the preacher at St John’s Church on Sunday night. Euchre Tournament. The Featherston Croquet Club held a euchre tournament at the home of Mrs Saunders, president of the club, on Thursday night. The winners were: Mrs Halpin 1, Mrs Lynskey 2. Swimming Baths. The South Featherston School Swimming Baths are to be opened next week. Many children have already begun the swimming season with visits to the river. Euchre and Dancing. There was a good attendance at the South Featherston euchre tournament and dance on Thursday night. The card winners were: Ladies, Mrs Cuff 1. Mrs G. Burt 2.; .Men: Mr Thurston 1, Mr Wilton 2. The Monte Carlo competitions were won by Mr Benton and Miss Foss, and Mr Gundesen and Miss Gain.
