LAMB MARKET SLIGHTLY EASIER Lamb market: Slightly easier on the | continued heavy supplies of Home-kill-I ed. Mutton market: Wethers and ewes, weaker owing to heavier supplies and poor demand. Beef market: Frozen beef, meeting with good demand at the higher prices. Chilled beef, prices firmer on the lighter supplies. New Zealand porker pigs: Light and medium weights unchanged; heavy weights, slightly easier. New Zealand baconer pigs: Market quiet and unchanged. Boneless bobby veal: New season’s arrivals meeting with steady demand, with prices unchanged. The above report was received yesterday by the Meat Board from its London office, which advises that the following are the ruling prices of wholesale quantities of the descriptions of frozen meat mentioned and are for representative parcels of the goods sold on Thursday. Chilled beef prices are averages of the week. All prices are on the basis of delivered to Smtihfield market. Prices for the previous week are shown in parentheses: New Zealand Sheep.—Crossbred wethers and/or maiden ewes: 481 b and under, 5 l-8d (5 3-8 d); 491 b to 561 b, 4Jd (4 7-8 d); 571 b to 641 b, 4’d (4gd); 651 b to 721 b, 4|d (4 5-8 d). Frozen meat quotations (prices on a “delivered” basis, i.e., including storage charges, cartage, market tolls, etc.):—Best North Island xbd lambs, 28/361bs, 7 7-8 d; 36/421b's, 73d. North Island 2nd quality lambs, av. 30/31 lbs, 63d. Best North Island wether sheep, under 48Ibs, 5 l-8d; 48/561bs, *4jd; 56/64 lbs, 4Jd; 64/721bs, 4|d. North Island ewes, under 481bs, 3.1 d; 48/561bs, 27-8 d; 56/641bs, 27-8 d; 64/721bs, 23d. Compared with last week’s quotations, crossbred lamb ‘ 28/361bs and second quality lamb l-8d per lb lower. Wethers u/481bs and 56/641bs, Id per lb lower; 48/561bs and 64/721bs, l-8d per lb lower. Ewes l-8d per lb lower. Others unchanged. The market is quiet and easier all round.
