After a speech by Lord Francis Scott, denouncing as traitorous those considering placing natives, Indians and British subjects under German rule, in view of Germany’s record with her own minorities, the Kenya Farmers’ Convention pledged its support against colonial concessions.
AN INDIAN VIEW DECLARATION BY CHANDRA BOSE. “DAY OF RECKONING WILL COME.” (Received This Day, 11.45 a.m.) CALCUTTA, October 20. Mr Chandra Bose, president of the Indian National Congress, declared that Tanganyikans are not cattle to be bought and sold at the will of the Great Powers. “It may be possible,” he said, “for Britain to ignore the will of Tanganyika and effect a deal with Germany, but Indians will never forgive Imperialist Powers who play with Indian life and property. A day of reckoning will come when Indians will be masters of their own lands.” SOUTH AFRICAN ACTION. . MINISTER GOING TO LONDON. (Received This Day, 1.15 p.m.) CAPE TOWN, October 20. The Minister of Defence (Mr O. Pirow) has left for London. It is understood that he is discussing with Portugal, South African co-operation in the defence of East Africa and is authorised to investigate all matters concerning South Africa, including colonies. He may see Herr Hitler.
