Michael Stewart, a licensed jockey, aged 23, was admitted to two years’ probation by Mr Justice Callan in the Supreme Court 'this morning, having been found guilty of theft earlier in the session. Sentencing Stewart. Mr Justice Callan said he thought it proper in the circumstances to admit prisoner to probation. The fact that the jury had found Stewart not guilty of breaking and entering and recommended leniency indicated that they had adduced the belief he himself held, that Stewart would not have committed the offence had he not been under the influence of liquor. Stewart was also instructed to take out a prohibition order.
