' The report presented at the half- 1 yearly meeting of the Bush-Wairarapa I Federation of Women’s Institutes at Eketahuna today stated that since the 1 last council meeting the federation had - suffered a severe loss in the passing of 1 its loved president, Mrs J. D. C. Crewe, who died on July 16. Mrs Crewe had ’ held many offices in the institute 1 rhovemeht, being a Federation presi- ’ dent for ten years, and the leader of 1 the federation since its formation in 1 May, 1934. At the Dominion Conference held in 1 Wellington in July the federation was represented by Miss O. Wolters, of Car- ■ terton. A Bush-Wairarapa remit urging institute members to interest ; themselves in the beautifying of the surroundings of railway stations was carried. Institutes were urged to cafry : this out in all localities adjacent to railway stations, so that there may be a marked improvement before the centenary in 1940. Miss Wolters was commissioned by the Dominion Federation to present to the Federation a fascimile copy of the message from Queen Mary, cohveyed by Mrs Alfred Watt to the 'Women’s Institute members and countrywomen of New Zealand. This had been suitably framed. The holding of the drama, music and folk-dancing festival in the Institute Hall in Woodville was highly successful. A challenge trophy in the form of a very beautiful bronze statuette on a marble base, was a gift from Mrs H. Patterson. To encourage outside competition the Federation has donated an open class cup. The interim financial statement showed a balance in hand of £24 6s lOd. In accordance with the definite decision arrived at at last council meeting the necessary arrangements had been completed for the formation, bv the Dominion Organiser, Mrs R. Kelso, of the proposed’Wairarapa‘Fedora+inn. This meeting will be held in *he S+ate Hal], Masterton, on Wednesdnv November 2. and will probably be bv a school of instruction on ♦he two following days.
