CRIPPLED CHILDREN
ACTIVITIES OF THE SOCIETY IN WAIRARAPA. ROTARY CLUB ADDRESS. An interesting and informative address on the work of the Crippled Children Society was given at today’s luncheon of the Masterton Rotary Club by Mr E. M. Hodder. Mr Hodder stated that the society was started largely as the result of the enthusiasm Of one’ or two members of the Wellington Rotary Club, who became keenly interested in work connected with crippled children. He proceeded to outline the way in which Rotary Clubs through New Zealand had sponsored the formation of branches of' the society, after it had been definitely established as the result of investigations that they had made that a society of that kind was necessary. The Masterton Club had made a survey of the position in the Wairarapa and had sponsored the setting up and organising of the Wairarapa branch. This action was in accordance with the ideals and principles of Rotary. The branch was formed on September 3, 1935. Mr Hodder indicated the work the branch had done since its inception. Up to September 30. it had received £405 in donations, grants, subscriptions, etc, and the expenditure was just over £250. He pointed out that £l4O came from a share of the Nuffield gift and as the branch was not likely to receive the same contribution again from that source it would shortly be in need of funds. After indicating the procedure adopted in considering a case for assistance Mr Hodder said the goal the society aimed at was giving every crippled child the right to occupy the best possible position it could in life, in spite of its handicaps.
