The acting-Prime Minister, Sir Earle Page, outlined in the Federal Parliament the Commonwealth Government’s proposals for national co-operation in defence and development. He said that to place Australia in a position of security, a substantial expenditure would be necessary both for actual deL.nue equipment and for industrial development in its widest sense. The Government proposed to suggest to the S.ates that a Defence Advisory Committee should be established comprising representatives of the various State Governments and of industry.
