PAN-PACIFIC AFFAIRS
MEETING OF MASTERTON GROUP. PREPARING FOR WOMEN’S z CONFERENCE. A meeting of women representing the various local women’s organisations was held on Monday in the W.D.F.U. rooms, Masterton, to discuss the preliminary work to be done in connection with the Pan Pacific Women’s Association Conference to be held in Wellington early in - 1940. Miss I. Tankersley was voted to the chair and Miss A. Shelton appointed secretary of the group. After discussion it was decided as essential that the representatives should consult with their own organisations as to the methods to be followed to create interest in the conference. The setting up of study circles was considered as it is necessary to have a body of well-informed women with some knowledge of the topics to be discussed so that the greatest benefit can be obtained from the discussions with overseas delegates. It is desirable that as many women as possible should become interested, and membership tickets should be obtained some time before the conference to ensure accommodation at the open meetings. It is hoped that those who may not be able to attend such meetings may have opportunities to hear the visitors’ views and contributions over the “air,” and that some of them may visit other parts of the Dominion than Wellington and so make personal contacts with New Zealand women in various districts.
