IMPROVED DEMAND FOR HOGGETS. SHARP RISE IN EWE PRICES. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-open-ative Distributing Co., Ltd., offered a large yarding of fat sheep, a medium entry of store sheep and a small yarding of cattle to a fair attendance of buyers at their Mastertori sale yesterday. Fat sheep, except for light shorn ewes, were firm at late rates. There was an improved demand for good conditioned hoggets, and there was a sharp rise in prices for ewes with good lambs at foot. The following sales were made: —Fat woolly wethers, 25s 3d to 27s 6d; fat w.f. wether hoggets, 26s 6d; fat woolly maiden ewes, 25s 3d; fat woolly ewes, 20s to 22s 3d: light, 17s 3d to 18s 6d; fat shorn ewes, 14s to 15s 3d; light, 10s 2d; shorn b.f. two-tooths, 17s 3d; best ewe hoggets, to 325; w.f. wether hoggets, 21s to 22s 9d; f.m. ewes with b.f. lambs at foot, 17s 4d; empty station cows, £3 13s; porkers, £2 2s; best weaner pigs, 24s to 27s 6d; small, 18s to 20s. LOAN & MERCANTILE CO. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency report having held their weekly sale yesterday when there was a good yarding of sheep, chiefly hoggets, which met with sound competition at prices firm on late rates. There was no alteration in fats. They had a total clearance at the following rates: Fat sheep: Light fat wethers, 24s 6d; maiden ewes, 245; heavy fat ewes, 21s; fat hoggets, 24s 6d. Store sheep: Good ewe hoggets, 30s to 31s; small wether hoggets, 15s to 17s; b.f. hoggets, 14s to 16s Id; ewes and lambs, all counted, Ils 7d, "Cattle: Yearling Jersey bull, £4; store cows, £2 15s. Pigs: Weaners, 23s 6d to 24s 6d. WRIGHT STEPHENSON & CO. Messrs Wright Stephenson and Co., Ltd., report:—A fair yarding of sheep came forward at Masterton yesterday. Several pens of ewe hoggets were included in the offering and these sold freely, although we do, not consider prices any firmer to those ruling a month ago. Ewes with lambs at foot showed a sharp rise, while wether hoggets and other store sheep were at about the same as the previous week. The demand for fats was erratic, some pens making prices well above expectations while others were practically neglected. The following prices ruled: —Ewe hoggets (extra good), 32s 4d; others, 28s 2d to 29s 9d; small ewe hoggets, 21s to 24s 6d; wether hoggets, 18s 6d to 20s; small, 9s to 11s 6d; ewes with lambs, at foot, 17s 2d (all counted); fat ewes (woolly), 18s 6d to 22s 6d; shorn, 16s 6d to 18s 3d; fat woolly hoggets, 20s to 235; fat woolly wethers, 27s 3d; shorn, 22s 6d to 245. DALGETY & CO. Messrs Dalgety and Co, Ltd, report on their weekly Masterton sale as follows:—We offered a fair yarding of wether hoggets and fat sheep. Good wether hoggets sold at increased values while fat sheep, except for light shorn ewes/were firm at-late rates. Prices were as follow: —250 good wether hoggets, 22s 6d; 15 b.f. hoggets, 15s; small wether hoggets, 13s; small ewe hoggets 28s; fat shorn ewes, 16s 6d, fat shorn maiden ewes, 18s 6d; fat Down hoggets, 21s; fat Down wethers, 21s 6d.
