In doing so, Mr DeLacey referred to the consistent shooting of the South Featherston Club. The shield he presented to the captain (Mr A. Gain) of the club which had registered the great score of 9744 points, with 9 wins and a draw out of 10 matches fired. Mastertori were runners-up with a score of 9742 (eight wins, a loss, and a draw). Both teams were complimented on their fine shooting. Mr DeLacey drew attention to the outstanding record of Mr Cliff Bain in winning the Association Challenge Cup and miniature. Out of a score of 800 Mr Bain’s record was 797. His targets showed five possibles and three 99’s, a truly remarkable score, and probably one that was a record for miniature shooting in New Zealand. He heartily congratulated Mr Bain and asked his acceptance of the t’j’o cups on behalf of the Association. (Applause).
A cup which is fired for annually between South Featherston and Greytown clubs (20-a-side) was presented to the captain by Mr Tui Morgan, of Greytown, amid applause. During the proceedings, the secretary (Mr P. A. Wilton) said a pleasant duty devolved upon him and it was to recognise the services rendered to the club by Mrs F. Burt. The club members valued the services rendered by her, more especially the catering part of the club’s programme. Mrs Burt had taken full charge and responsibility in this respect and they wished to recognise her efforts in some tangible way. Ou behalf of the club he had great pleasure in asking Mrs Burt to accept a pair of beautiful cushions. Mrs Burt was warmly cheered. The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought to a close one of the happiest gatherings ever held at South Featherston.
The room was then cleared and dancing indulged in till the early hours of the morning.
