Typical of the crop of “inside stories” from the crisis is a statement by Captain Von Rintelen, a German ex-Ser-vice man and the author of “The Dark Invader,” in a speech at Bromley, in which he .declared: "The affair of two weeks ago was a gigantic fraud and bluff, for which Britain and France fell. I have positive evidence that it was never a question of war, to which the German’ High Command’ was opposed. If it had occurred, something would have happened in Germany of which you have not thought.”
