WAIRARAPA v. WELLINGTON Wellington golfers experienced some varied weather during the week-end. On Saturday a strong north-westerly wind of half-gale force had to be countered with, and yesterday heavy rain fell throughout the day, causing stances and grips to be most insecure, and casual water to lie on many of the greens. The most important event on the programme was the visit of a team representing the Wairarapa club, which played a fourball match against the Wellington club on Saturday. The match resulted in a win for Wellington by 3| games to 2J. The following are the results, the Wairarapa players being mentioned first in each instance: —D. C. Collins and W. H. Rowles beat A. D. S. Duncan and E. D. Blundell, 4 and 3. W. V. Fountain and G. O’Neale beat W. S. Milne and J. Corry, 5 and 4. E. Bidwill and K. H. Allen lost to M. Blundell and D. G. Marchbanks, 3 and 2. H. R. Bloxam and T. E. Lang and S. Gerard and E. Salmond, all square. J. W. Card and H. Lawson lost to> G. O. Bishop and W. E. Fussell, 6 and 5. A. R. B. Barton and W. Pope lost to A. C. O’Connor and A. Todd, 6 and 5. Collins, the Wairarapa captain, was in good form, covering the course in 74—36 out and 38 home. HUTT v. WAIRARAPA A match, between Wairarapa and Hutt was to have been played on the Hutt links yesterday, but owing to heavy rain only one fourball was played in the morning. In this W. K. Cook and J. F. Pym (Hutt) defeated D. C. Collins and D. B. Cameron, 4 and 2. LADIES’ MATCH MASTERTON BEAT RIVERSIDE. The following were the scores in the match played on Saturday at Lansdowne between the Masterton and Riverside ladies, the Masterton players being mentioned first in each case:— Mrs Plummer -and Mrs Rawlins all square; Mrs Fagan lost to Mrs Beresford 3 and 2; Mrs S. Burridge won from Mrs Batty 5 and 4; Miss Oates won from Mrs Gray 5 and 4; Mrs R. Burridge won from Mrs Palamontain 4 and 3; Mrs. Garland won from Mrs Clark 5 and 4; Mrs Candy won from Mrs Brown 4 and 2; Miss J. Wrigley lost to Mrs Clarkson 2 and 1; Miss Percy won from .Mrs. Beecroft 1 up;’ Mrs Cunningham lost to Mrs Jones 4 and 3; Mrs Gooding won from Mrs Blatchford 7 and 6; Mrs O. McKenzie won from Miss Nix 6 and 5. Totals: Masterton 8 games, Riverside 3 games, one game squared.
BIDEFORD CLUB. CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS. The following are the results of the finals of the championship competitions played on the Bideford golf links yesterday;— Ladies’ championship. —Mrs T. Falloon beat Mrs W. Batty. Men’s championship.—J. Bell beat R. Plummer. Local championship.—C. Percy beat J. Donald. Junior championship.—A. Kerr beat R. Smith by default. For the Labour Day tournament entries close at 8.30 p.m. on Thursday, October 20. MAHUNGA CLUB SATURDAY’S GAMES A flag competition was played by the lady members of Mahunga club on Saturday, the winner being Mrs L. M. Roach, who carried the flag to the 18th green. The following were the best cards returned for the medal competition played on Saturday:—E. Jenkins, 68; A. H. Ward, 69; Intermediate championship: —The final of the intermediate championship was played on Saturday over 36 holes and resulted in L. M. Roach defeating R. J. Smith, by 5/4. MAHUNGA v. EKETAHUNA WIN FOR LOCAL TEAM The return inter-club match was played at Mahunga over the week-end and after a most enjoyable day’s golfing the local club emerged victorious by 15 games to 10. The results were as follows, Mahunga players being mentioned first in each instance:— Men’s Fourballs: —W. W. Hendry and lan McFarlane, all square, with J. Dickson and McGregor; R. Lendrum and W. Johnson beat J. Payne and J. Luckell; T. Nelson, and G. R. Ward beat Henderson and Shaile; G. R. Brisco and A. W. McGregor beat Quinlivan and R. Dickson; R. J. Smith and L. Roach beat Tredray and another; J. G. McFarlane and G. T. Wagg lost to Henderson and Herbert.
