POSTING THE RESULTS
SCENE AT “TIMES=AGE” BOARD HUGE CROWD ASSEMBLES. KEEN INTEREST MANIFESTED. A crowd of several thousands assembled in Chapel Street to watch the posting of the election results on the “Times-Age” display boards and to hear announcements and speeches transmitted by wireless. The whole of the arrangements worked admirably. The'Masterton candidates spoke from the balcony of the “Times-Age” building after the declaration of the poll. Under an arrangement with Mr W. H. Saunders, first-class service was given by a wireless equipment, installed by his radio technician, Mr H. Byrn and used both in broadcasting from 2YA and in transmitting local announcements. Both the broadcast results and the local announcements by Mr J. B. Baybutt, of the “Times-Age” staff were heard clearly and well. Grateful thanks are due to Messrs H. M. Boddington, A. D. Low and A. P. Smith for most capable assistance in the compilation of the local returns and to Messrs F. and S. Smith, who undertook the posting of results. Results transmitted from the “TimesAge” were given at the Regent and State theatres during their performances on Saturday evening and were received by the large audiences with considerable interest.
With a double licensing poll as well as a Parliamentary poll to handle, the Masterton Returning Officer, Mr D. C. E. Webster and his staff had a very heavy and arduous task on Saturday. The official arrangements worked well and thanks are due to Mr Webster and his staff for facilities and assistance courteously given in connection with the posting of results.
