POLL CLERK’S DEATH

COLLAPSED AT POST OFFICE. AUCKLAND, October 16. An elderly man, John James CurbyHacket, aged 63, Kelmarna Avenue, Herne Bay, collapsed and died at the Ponsonby Post Office shortly after 8.30 o’clock on Saturday night. He was carried inside, but died before the arrival of a doctor or ambulance. Dr Pettit certified that death was due to heart failure and no inquest will be necessary. Mr Curby-Hackett had been acting as poll-clerk at the Beresford Street School polling booth in the Auckland West electorate during the day and had returned to the post office after the poll closed. ,
