> HINTS ABOUT THE HOME. Pussy’s Cushion. Use odd pieces of cretonne and stuff • with crumpled newspaper; new paper can be put in when the old is removed for washing the cover. Make-up Aid. One of the latest helps to “makeup” is an electric light with reflector ' that can be attached to the dressingtable mirror. You fix it over the top of the looking-glass and it can be tilted either on you or on the mirror to provide shadowless light. A New Lip Stick. Speaking of make-up, light lipstick shades are what sophisticated mouths are adopting. “Sky pink” is the quaint name of one of the new tones because, I suppose, it is the pinkest one could imagine, just as sky-blue is the bluest blue. It goes well with frocks in the fashionable pinks and mauvy-blues. Holiday Shoes. Holiday shoes with a new type of support enable the lovers of high heels to have their accustomed heel height with the advantage of flat heels on the beach or promenade. There is a built-up section under the instep made all in one .with the heel, that, waisted at the back in the usual way, gives the graceful nigh heel line flattering to the ankle. Sole and heel thus united form a flat surface to walk on. Table Cloths Again. Table cloths are superseding sets of mats once mote. As often as not, though, the cloth that coveres the up-to-date table is not a showy damask affair but is of Irish linen in a dark colour. Deep green linen is chosen to show off glittering glass ware. A good rich shade, dark brown is favoured fbr a linen cloth wnen the table is to be set with modern colourful china patterned with bold designs. Sun Protection. Wrappings of transparent cellulose paper round the legs are what Californian girls use to save sun burning but not tanning. Sun hats with broad cellophane brims to prevent faces and necks from scorch are not a brand new idea, but why not extend the notion to short capes of the same material to be worn in the early days of sun-bathing until the skin has acquired its protective tan? Blistered backs are not only painful but undo all the good the sun-rays have been doing. Useful. Felt. If you like making things, buy a packet of felt pieces in all kinds of colours and use these to make cutouts motifs for your table-runners, chair-backs, cushion covers and so on. The felt can be easily shaped into colourful birds, beasts or flowers. Or, for your personal adornment you could embellish your belts with quaint little figures of felt all the way round. A special adhesive solution is obtainable to fix these “cut-outs.”
