LONDON MOTOR SHOW

LARGE ORDERS REPORTED (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 13. Opening the thirty-second motor show at Earl’s Court today, the Duke of Kent referred to the steady growth of the industry over the past decades, and said that the motor industry, like most others in all countries, had, during the past year, suffered by a recession in sales due almost entirely to the unsettled state of international affairs. He thought that there was no doubt that with a return of confidence, there would be a resumption of general buying. On a tour of inspection on which he was accompanied by Dr Burgin, Minister of Transport, the Duke showed that he had been impressed by the many improvements in this year’s models of British cars. The total value of the exhibits was over £500,000. Exhibitors already report large orders which encourage strong hopes that the show will be an outstanding success.
