HUNGARY RESTIVE

PRESSING CLAIM AGAINST CZECHOSLOVAKIA MILITARY PRECAUTIONS TAKEN REGARDED AS PARTIAL MOBILISATION By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 9.30 a.m.) BUDAPEST, October 16. Cabinet has decided on additional military precautions pending the FourPowers’ Reply to the Hungarian Note. The action taken is regarded in some quarters as a partial mobilisation. Official circles declare that Hungary expects a quick settlement of her boundary dispute with Czechoslovakia, otherwise she will “take steps herself.” At present, it was added significantly, Hungary is delaying full mobilisation of her forces. Thousands demonstrated in the streets when the breakdown of negotiations was announced, shouting, “Down with Czechoslovakia!” It was later understood that the International Boundary Commission in Berlin has been asked to arbitrate. STATE OF TENSION DISAPPOINTMENT GENERAL , IN HUNGARY. NERVOUSNESS IN SOME QUARTERS. LONDON, October 14. The whole of Hungary is in a state of tension following the breakdown of the negotiations .with the Czechs, which has come as a bombshell to the public who were encouraged to expect a speedy settlement, including the restitution of at least the old Hungarian territories. Hungarians, it is insisted, are not prepared to accept treatment differing from that accorded to Germany and Poland and demand the immediate transfer of all predominantly Hungarian frontier zones. It is also insisted that the 1910 census must be the basis of negotiations, ' whereas the Czechs favour the 1930 census. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Budapest correspondent says that it is believed that Signor Mussolini is now less 'inclined to support the Hungarian claims than hitherto. It is thought that he is now falling into line with Herr Hitler’s policy, which is causing in-' tense nervousness in Hungarian quarters.
