INQUIRY BY COMMISSION IN CANADA DECISION TO CALL DEFENCE MINISTER FORMATION OF COMPANY QUESTIONED (By Telegraph—Press Association.) (Received This Day, 12.20 p.m.) OTTAWA, October 12. The Royal Commission inquiring into the joint British and Canadian contract for the manufacture in Toronto of Bren guns decided to call the Minister of Defence (Mi’ Mackenzie) after General Lafleche, Militia Department Deputy Minister had testified that the Piirne Minister (Mr W. L. Mackenzie King) has been opposed to the Canadian manufacture of British munitions, vetoing cables to the War Office, but that Major Hahn, promoter of the company, subsequently securing a contract, had appeared in London with a letter from Mr Mackenzie. A magazine article by Colonel J. Andrew, Conservative organiser, alleged that the contract had been secured by means of a dummy company, with Major Hahn as president, the remainder of the directors being stenographers, and clerks. An inquiry followed.
