OPPOSITION TO GERMAN CLAIMS. POLITICAL PARTIES UNITE. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. DURBAN, October 12. The ‘hands off Africa campaign” is gaining momentum. Political leaders have called a truce and Dominion, Socialist and United Party members, in a mass meeting, are to demonstrate their opposition to any move for cession of land to Germany. Three thousand civilians have made a similar protest. Natives at Dar-es-Salaam, carrying Union Jacks, took part in an orderly demonstration throughout the city last night, proclaiming their loyalty to the British mandate. EAST AFRICAN BOARD. PROTEST AGAINST CESSION OF. TANGANYIKA. (Received This Day, 10.55 a.m.) LONDON, October 12. The executive of the Joint East African Board, expressing a determination to resist cession of Tanganyika to Germany, urges the organisation of an influential body of representative views. A British African, who is alarmed at the suggestion of cession, draws attention to the strategic and economic consequences thereof and emphasises that undertakings as to the permanence of British administration should be given to the natives by governors and Cabinet members.
