POSTING OF THE RETURNS ARRANGEMENTS BY “WAIRARAPA TIMES-AGE” DISPLAY BOARDS AND LOUD SPEAKERS Special arrangements have been made by the “Wairarapa Times-Age” to show general election results for the whole of the Dominion on special display boards erected in front of the building. On these boards will appear in detail the whole of the results of polling in the Masterton and Wairarapa electorates for the Parliamentary vote, and for the Masterton nolicence issue, while Dominion results will be displayed as they come to hand. Most complete arrangements have been made for securing the results as expeditiously as possible. A special telephone has been installed direct from the Masterton Returning Officer’s quarters to the “Times-Age” office. As the returns come to hand, progress reports showing the position of the can.r a didates and also progress results of the state of parties will be shown. The services of Messrs F. and S. Smith have been engaged for the signwriting, and the flood lighting of the hoarding is being carried out by the Wairarapa Electric Power Board. The results board and staging were erected by Messre C. E. Daniell, Ltd. SERVICE BY RADIO Special arrangements have been made with Mr W. H. Saunders, of Masterton, to re-broadcast from 2YA, Wellington, announcements per medium of loud speakers installed by his radio technician, Mr H. Byrn. In addition, the firm is installing a microphone and loud speaker at the “Times-Age” office, so that special announcements and progress reports of polling in the Masterton and . Wairarapa electorates may be made expeditiously as soon as they are received. Masterton candidates have been invited to speak from the “Times-Age” building as soon as the result of the polling is known. Results will also be dispatched from the “Times-Age” office to both the State and Regent Theatres where for the convenience of patrons they will be displayed on special screens during the performances. Subscribers and others interested are asked to refrain as much as possible from using the “Times-Age” telephones, as these will be used in securing results, and the staff will be working at high pressure during the evening. EXCLUSION OF TRAFFIC The Masterton Borough Council has decided to exclude motor traffic from Chapel Street in the area adjacent to the “Times-Age” buildings, from 6.30 o’clock on election night. The street will be roped off at the corners of Jackson Street, Perry Street and Cole Street. In view .of this area being closed to traffic, the W.F.C.A. Ltd wish to remind motorists who are in the habit of using the firm’s parking area opposite the “Times-Age” building that it will be necessary to make other arrangements for., the. parkipg of their cars on election night. MAORI SEATS CONTESTS IN ALL CASES. POLLING TAKES PLACE TOMORROW. Polling will take place tomorrow for the election of four representatives of the Maori race. Contests are being held in all four seats—Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern — and this yedr, for the first time, a secret ballot will be conducted. Previously Maoris voted by declaration. At present the Eastern and Northern Maori seats are held by National Party members- and the Southern and Western seats by Labour supporters. A list of candidates for the Maori seats appears on page 12.
