A message from Fort Frances (Ontario) states that fourteen lives were claimed by a forest fire sweeping homesteads over an area fifty miles wide. The mothers had heroically covered the infants with their bodies in a vain attempt to save them as the flames swept over them, after they had fled from their homes in an attempt to reach a lake.
