HEROIC MOTHERS
ATTEMPT TO SAVE CHILDREN FROM DEATH IN CANADIAN FOREST FIRE FOURTEEN LIVES LOST By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 12.25 p.m.) VANCOUVER, October 11. A message from Fort Frances (Ontario) states that fourteen lives were claimed by a forest fire sweeping homesteads over an area fifty miles wide. The remains of two women and nine children were found by a roadside. The mothers had heroically covered the infants with their bodies in a vain attempt to save them as the flames swept over them, after they had fled from their homes in an attempt to reach a lake.
