VERY STRONG COMPETITION. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. SYDNEY, October 10. The offering at today’s wool sales consisted of 12,342 bales, of which 11,830 were sold, also 932 privately. Very strong competition prevailed, especially on the French account. The market, compared with last week, was from par to 5 per cent higher. Excellent clearances were effected. Greasy merino made 16Jd. The average price of wool at last week’s auctions was £l5 6s 10s a bale, or 10.3 d a lb. RECORD YIELD. MERINO WETHER’S CLIP. SYDNEY, October 10. What is claimed to be the world record yield of merino wool from one sheep is attributed to a wether shorn at Yass (New South Wales) which cut 2811 b of high-quality wool for the second year in succession. The fleece took 38 minutes to shear.
