JEWS FOR ABYSSINIA

REPORTED ITALIAN PROPOSAL MORE RESTRICTIVE DECREES. DECISIONS OF GRAND COUNCIL. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. ROME, October 7. The meeting of the Fascist Grand Council ended at 2.40 a.m. today after a session lasting four hours and 40 minutes The Council met again at 10 p.m. It is unofficially stated that the Council approved a proposal to settle European Jews in certain areas of Abyssinia, providing the international Jewry ceases its unfriendliness toward Italy. A communique says that the council issued a decree prohibiting marriages between Italians, Jews and other nonAryans and forbidding State officials to marry foreign women of any race. Italians may only marry foreigners — even Aryans—with the consent of the Ministry of the Interior. The council confirmed the law forbidding the entry of foreign Jews into Italy and expelling foreign Jews within six months, except those over 65 years old or who have married an Italian subject before October, 1938. Families of Italian Jews who have fallen in the Libyan, World Abyssinian or Spanish wars, or who have suffered injuries for the Fascist cause, or who rendered exceptional service to the State regarding migration to Abyssinia, are not to be discriminated against.
