MODEL AERO CLUB

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING. TWO MEMBERS JOIN AIR FORCE. The second annual meeting of the Masterton Model Aero Club was held in the club room, Perry Street, on Wednesday night. There was a good attendance of members and the meeting. which was under the chairmanship of Mr N. G. F. Whiteman, was a very successful one. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr A. McDonald; president, Mr N. G. F. Whiteman; club captain, Mr D. A. Donald; hon secretary, Mr B. J. Doyle; hon treasurer, Mr W. G. Perry; hon recording officer, Mr W. R. Perry; squadron leaders, Messrs H. F. Fulton, H. P. Blatchford and H. L. Cornish; hon auditor, Mr T. S. Stilburn. The chairman presented the trophies won during the season. The following is an extract from the committee’s annual report:—“The club consists of 25 financial members, 15 being seniors, and ranks as the third largest in the southern district (North Island). The ever-popular 'gas’ models have increased considerably in numbers, there being nine at present completed and four others in the course of construction. In spite of the popular belief that these models are prone to crash easily there have been only two serious crashes this year, both of which were caused by faulty rudder adjustments on test flights. The previous year’s record time for rubber-powered models of 2mins ssecs has been passed on several occasions, the best time being a splendid flight by H. Fulton of smins 34 2-ssecs. Mention should be made of the fact that two members of the club enlisted in the R.N.Z.A.F., while a third has been selected for the civil reserve of pilots. There is no reason to believe that the club will not continue to be instrumental in the providing of pilots and aero technicians. This is an aspect which is not considered by most people who do not realise that model aeroplanes are not mere toys, but have to be carefully designed and built in accordance with the laws of aerodynamics.”
