PARIS NIGHT CLUBS
SUPERVISION BY POLICE. Retribution swift and sure fell last month upon five proprietors, of Paris night clubs which were far more unpleasant than artistic and where foolish victims had been charged extravagant prices for inferior champagne. There are scores of extremely interesting and officially recognised cabarets in Paris where one can spend a delightful evening at reasonable terms. There is plenty of bright gaiety at the open-air show at the Moulin de la Galette, where a number of turns are given on the dance floor that are pretty, artistic and characteristically French. The French Can-Can is danced, but the world has changed so much since the days of our grandfathers that the naughtiness of the high-kicking looks quite tame. The Bal Tabarin offers a splendid show every night, and in both places one sees as many women visitors as men. After an evening at either, one realises that Paris has lost nothing of its gaiety, and is still the capital where you can do as you please and say what you like. The unfortunate necessity of closing five alleged places of amusement gets wide publicity, especially in a section of the foreign press unfriendly to France, but it is not revealed that the proprietors were not even French. It must be admitted, too, that all the story is not always known or told. People trying to find entertainment to which they would not have the courage to take their women friends should not be surprised if they run into unpleasant experiences and hold-ups. Paris is perfectly safe, its entertainments good and cheap, and a glance at any newspaper will show dozens of places where one can go.
