GHASTLY STORY
DISAPPEARANCE OF WOMEN BODY ALLEGEDLY FED TO ALLIGATORS. SUICIDE OF ACCUSED MAN IN TEXAS. SAN ANTONIO (Texas), October 4. A gruesome story of the alleged feeding of a young white woman to five pet alligators was told to Texas rangers investigating the disappearances of girls working for Joe Ball, at his roadhouse on the edge of the desert. Ball, who had been married three times, shot himself a week ago when officers arrived to question him,. A negro later admitted that he had helped Ball to dismember the body of Minnie Gotthardt and bury the remains in the sand dunes. The body of Hazel Brown was found in a shallow grave nearby. The rangers are at present seeking another girl, Betty Wendell. Inquiries revealed that a number’ of women have disappeared, some after visiting maternity homes. Today the local police undertook, provided that the rangers promised protection, to produce a witness who allegedly surprised Ball carrying a body from the rear of his roadhouse to a concrete alligator pit. Ball, according to the police, drew a gun and told the man to “beat it.” Alligators are one of the attractions at the roadhouse.
