PRICE OF BUTTER
INCREASE ANTICIPATED AFTER ELECTION. IN KEEPING WITH GUARANTEED RATE. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, This Day. Advice that they will not suffer any loss as a result of butter being sold in New Zealand at present well below the Guaranteed price has been received by dairy companies in the Manawatu district. Substantial losses have been incurred since the increased guaranteed Drice operated from August 1 this year, and it is believed the Government has decided to raise the price to local consumers after the election to such an extent as to recoup the thousands of pounds which have already been lost. It is understood that a definite undertaking has been given by the Minister of Marketing that all butter manufactured during the 1938-39 season will be paid for at the new price, whether sold locally or exported. Inquiries are being made by the Department of Internal Marketing concerning stocks purchased or held at the old price. However it is emphasised by dairy company operatives that the cost of the anticipated adjustment will be borne, not by the consumers of local butter, but by the community as a whole through the Dairy Industry Account.
