MASTERTON HARRIERS

SEASON BROUGHT TO A CLOSE. The Masterton Harrier Club has closed its operations for the' season. The season was officially declared closed by the club’s president, Mr I. D. Cameron, at a function held on Saturday. Mr Cameron, in a well chosen speech, congratulated the club on winning three out of four of its inter-club contests. He was followed by the club captain, Mr C. K. Long, who asked Mrs George Shaw and Mrs lan Cameron to present the Shaw Rose Bowl and Cameron Cup, respectively, to the individual winners. Mrs R. Gully presented the remainder of the trophies. Mr J. Robertson, M.P., in a speech, stressed the value of cross-country running in building up the body. Speeches were also made by Messrs R. Gully, R. Shaw (vice-captain), J. Hunter and L. A. Keats. The following are the trophy winners: —Shaw Rose Bowl, I. Shaw; Cameron Cup, C. Pringle; runner-up, J. Haise; Willis Cup (5 mile open handicap), G. Fredrickson; 5 mile club championship, G. Gregory; 10 mile club championship, G. Gregory; Rose Commemoration Cup (Ist Masterton man in district championship), W. Pullar; 5 mile district championship certificate, W. Pullar; Cairns Cup junior championship, P. O’Brien; Anonymous Cup, K. Cairns; trophy sealed handicap (junior), P. Scandrett; 2nd sealed handicap, L. Reynolds; consolation trophies (senior), H. Harris 1, R. Gully 2, J. Baikie 3.
