MR J. F. THOMPSON VISITS . ' TINUI DISTRICT. MOST ENTHUSIASTIC RECEPTIONS (“Times-Age” Special.) Mr J. F. Thompson, National candidate, had somewhat of a triumph in the Tinui district yesterday, when he addressed three or four meetings, being enthusiastically received everywhere. He first talked to over 30 settlers at Mr Groves’s home, Bush Grove, where he was thanked for so explicitly placing the views and policy of the National Party before them. Later Mr Thompson spoke to 30 electors at the workmen’s dining room at Castlepoint station. He was thanked by the manager, Mr Ashworth. The candidate then proceeded to Annedale station and again addressed about 30 settlers and employees, and was thanked by Mr Cameron. In the evening Mr Thompson addressed the largest meeting ever held at Tinui, me hall being packed, with many standing outside Mr Schofield, chairman of the Castlepoint County Council, occupied the chair, and the candidate was applauded throughout. Mr Thompson said it was abundantly clear from his' contact with the rural community that their outlook and sentiment was definitely anti-socialist. He could see no evidence among farmers or those engaged in the industry that they desired the socialisation of their produce or to see State interference with stock firms. The middle class, or those with moderate savings, were also opposed to socialism, because they desired the opportunity and freedom to follow their own ambition. Mr Laing moved a vote of thanks to the speaker, which was carried with prolonged applause.
