TRUCKING YARDS

REQUEST FOR REMOVAL TO SOLWAY REPRESENTATIONS MADE TO MINISTER Representations were made to the Hon D. G. Sullivan, Minister of Railways, by Mr J. Robertson, M.P., and Mr T. Jordan, Mayor of Masterton, today, urging the removal of the cattle trucking yards from Masterton station to Solway. It was pointed out to the Minister that the present arrangements necessitated the driving of cattle through busy thoroughfares and residential areas, and in addition a nuisance was created in the summertime by the flies around the yards, which are virtually in the centre of the town. The Minister inspected the existing yards and also the suggested site at Solway, and it was pointed out to him that the stock and station agents were unanimously in favour of the transfer. Mr Sullivan promised to have a report made on the position, and an estimate prepared as to the cost which would be involved to give effect to the request, and to acquaint Mr Robertson of the position.
