GOLF CLUB COMPETITIONS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The final rounds for the Shield and Stableford competitions were held on Saturday afternoon. The following were the best cards handed in:— Medal: H. Wehipeihana, 75, 6, 69 net; H. Bloxam, 84, 13, 71; I. Donald, 91, 20, 71; W. Rowles, 75, 3, 72; G. O’Neale, 80, 8, 72; J. McCallum, 88, 14, 74; K. Allen, 82, 7, 75; J. Davis, 93, 18, 75; W. Jeffrey, 91, 14, 77.
Stableford: H. Wehipeihana, „ 33, 5, 38; G. O’Neale, 28, 6, 34; H. Bloxam, 24, 10, 34; I. Donald, 19, 15, 34; W. Rowles, 31, 2, 33; K. Allen, 28, 5, 33. The following were the winners for the season: —Senior championship, H. Wehipeihana; runner-up, J. McCallum. Junior championship, J. W. Card; rui# ner-up. I. Donald. Shield, W. Jeffrey. Stableford, I. Donald.
The closing day will be next Saturday when*a mixed foursome will be played. The return match with Tui Glen will be played at Tui Glen on Sunday next.
Mrs Willis Farewelled. A farewell function for Mrs Arden Willis who will leave shortly for Lower Hutt was tendered at Mrs Blain’s home on Friday, when a pleasant time was spent in euchre and competitions, the winners being: —Euchre: Mrs Gordon Burt, 1; Mrs A. Gain, 2; consolation, Mrs B. Burt. Competition: Mrs Dean Burt, 1; Mrs Cuff winning the consolation prize. During ’the afternoon Mrs Wakely asked Mrs Willis to accept a piece of crystal accompanied by the best wishes of her many friends. A dainty afternoon tea brought to a conclusion a happy afternoon. . Euchre and Dance. There was a good attendance at the Pahautea Hall on Saturday night when a euchre tournament and dance were held. The euchre prize-winners were: —Ladies: Mrs Riki, 1; Miss N. Cade, 2. Men: Mr J. z Matthews, 1; Mr A. Urquhart, 2. The statue waltz was won by Mr G. McKay and Miss B. Warrington. Bowling Season Opened. The opening of the Featherston Bowling Club took place on Saturday afternoon in beautiful weather. The green was in splendid order and the garden full of spring flowers and blooms. There was a record attendance of players and visitors. Mr J. W. Card, who officially declared the season open, said that such a large number of players augured well for a successful season. Little Miss June rolled up “kitty,” after which a few friendly games were played. The Booth Cup, which is always keenly contested and last year was won by this club was on view. Afternoon tea was provided by the wives of members. Messrs F. W. Smith and J. Higgison were handed certificates as winners of the champion pairs of the Wairarapa last year. Messrs J. Hyland, L. James, G. O’Neale and J. Higgison received their certificates as holders of the champion fours.
Personal. Mr Fred Dohnt, who for a number of years a resident of Featherston but has now taken up his residence in Masterton, was a member of the School Committee for 18 years. During the same period he was secretary and captain of the local cricket club, and was also a borough councillor for 10 years.
