The following cablegram from Hankow has been received by the Chinese Consul: — Forty thousand Japanese, following the Juichang-Wuning Highway, attacked the Chinese positions, but after four days’fighting-were defeated. . Southrwest of Shangeheng, the Chinese simultaneously attacked the Japanese both in front and rear and severely defeated them. On the Juichang-Wuning Highway, the Chinese, following up their victory, recaptured Maanshaw, Chukiatong and other important positions; also Shuanchen, which had been in Japanese hands for the last ten months.
