The Chinese, carrying out a powerful counter-offensive from Wuning, annihilated two Japanese detachments, killing 3000, and setting back the Japanese thrust along the Canton-Hankow railway.
JAPANESE REPORT OVER 30,000 CHINESE CASUALTIES (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) TOKIO, October 2. The Japanese estimate the Chinese casualties in the fortnight’s fighting at Tienchiacmeng at over 30,000, including 5000 dead left on the battlefield.
