NEW EUROPE
FRANCO-GERMAN ACCORD ANTICIPATED STATEMENT BY MARSHAL GOERING LONDON, October 1. The British United Press correspondent in Berlin says a highly reliable source reported that a declaration of Franco-German friendship, similar to that between England and Germany, is being prepared and may be issued soon. Reuter’s correspondent in Berlin expects that Germany and France will reach a friendship agreement. He quotes a Nazi spokesman as saying that Herr Hitler always wanted an agreement with England. It is understood the principal topic for discussion under the agreement would be the limitation of land and air armaments. A Munich report states that FieldMarshal Goering, in an interview, said that the Four-Power agreement- meant the beginning of a new Europe. “The fact that Mr Daladier spoke personally to the Fuehrer,” he said, “makes me feel that France now realises Germany’s peaceful intentions. I hope to see very soon a Franco-German accord.
